By Rail: 'Siliguri' and 'New Jalpaiguri' situated in West Bengal, about 114 km and 125 km respectively from Gangtok are the closest railways heads. From both the train stations a good connectivity is available for Delhi, Calcutta, Lucknow, Guwahati and many other important cities. North East Express, Kamrup Express, Testa Torsa Express, Brahmputra Mail etc are some of the major trains running from here. You can book your train ticket in advance from Sikkim Nationalized Transport office. Once you reach 'Siliguri' or 'New Jalpaiguri' station, you can rent a cab to reach Gangtok or travel by a state transport bus from Siliguri bus station.
By Road: National Highway 31A connects Gangtok with many cities and towns in and around Sikkim. Gangtok is linked by a very good motorable road with Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Bagdogra, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, etc. Sikkim National Transport buses provide bus service from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus to Gangtok. Private buses, taxis, jeeps, Landrovers, etc can be rented at the fixed rates. You can get your seat reserved in the local sight seeing bus through 'Tourist Bureau, Government of West Bengal, Gangtok'. Gangtok is 140 km from Darjeeling, 584 km from Patna, 589 km from Guwahati and 721 km from Kolkata.
